Space Dog: exploring the city with augmented reality family guide

An augmented reality escape room app for the Salzburg Old Town, Spaces Dog takes children and adults on a playful journey to explore the city.

THE COMPANY

Polycular is an interactive design and technology studio that pairs creativity and technological innovation to create experience spaces in the real and virtual world. With over 20 years of work experience, the studio collective produces award-winning games, apps, interactive advertisement solutions, and audio/visual events for clients worldwide.

THE GOAL

An association of businesses and cultural operators active in Salzburg’s old town worked with Polycular studio on an interactive way to engage the local population and provide a new way to discover the city’s cultural vibrancy. With Space Dog, the association offers children and families a playful experience to go and explore the Old Town, find curiosities and learn about the area while being outside.

THE SOLUTION

AR app: Space Dog Salzburg [ Google Play – App Store ]

With Space Dog app, the company supported Altstadt Salzburg in bringing citizens (especially families) to the old city center. The interactive experience is especially appealing for children aged 6-12 years and provides an active exploration of local places through the app connecting virtual and real worlds. Space Dog is an augmented reality escape room, mixing learning with games and fun with the help of a virtual city guide Polli, the great-great-great-grandson of Mozart’s dog, Pimperl. Walk around and follow Polli through the town to discover known and hidden places. Listen and learn how to play Mozart and Beethoven’s music. Discover stories about the shape of Ernst Wurms’s cucumbers at Furtwänglerpark and many other modern art sights in Salzburg’s old town.

THE AR TECHNOLOGY

This AR feature is used to detect, track, and digitally augment 2D images – ideal for augmenting customized image targets, magazines, books, user manuals, packaging, catalogs, coasters, gaming cards, etc.

Why Wikitude ?

Wikitude SDK did exceptionally well in changing light conditions. All the markers were detected well in direct sunlight, shadow, and mixed weather.
