Augmented reality sewing patterns
AR app allows users to view real-size digital sewing patterns that can be traced directly onto fabric
THE GOAL
- Create an efficient alternative to paper sewing patterns
Copying patterns from large magazine folds, or printing and taping paper pages together to form a sewing pattern can be very time-consuming, nerve recking, and not very environmentally friendly. So it didn’t come as a surprise when Pattarina, the AR app behind this visionary project, found out that 80% of all people who love sewing dislike the pattern preparation most.
The company wanted to offer an innovative option that would allow users to save time, paper, and nerves.
THE SOLUTION
- Image Tracking Augmented Reality Technology
AR app: Pattarina [ Google Play – App Store ]
The Pattarina app uses AR technology to project the sewing patterns directly onto the fabric. To ensure precision, the company opted to use an image target to lock and anchor the selected digital patterns.
As seen in the video, this is how it works:
- 1. Layout the fabric (flat and stable)
- 2. Place the image target anchor on the fabric
- 3. Then position and transfer the selected sewing pattern
A fabric pen can then be used to draw the projected lines that appear on the screen directly onto the fabric.
