TV show hosted by Ellen DeGeneres is using AR technology
NBC’s ‘Ellen’s Game of Games’ primetime show has attracted 900k+ users in one month with augmented reality app.
Ellen Digital Ventures is a joint venture firm between Warner Bros. Television Group and famous American comedian and TV host, Ellen DeGeneres. The venture was created to extend Ellen’s TV franchise to digital, social and gaming audiences across multiple media platforms.
The primetime game show, NBC’s “Ellen’s Game of Games”, has expanded beyond the traditional TV show format with an AR app which allows users to play along during broadcast and also when the show is off the air.
THE AR APP
- Users unlock prizes that jump from the TV screen into their phones
For those who tune in each week to “Ellen’s Game of Games” on NBC, and use the app’s special feature “Game of Games Play Along Live!” – with the use of augmented reality technology, the prizes jump right off the player’s screen and into their phone!
Throughout the show, Ellen DeGeneres puts presents on the screen. When users see one, they must point their phone’s camera at the screen and tap the box to collect a clue. As soon as users can guess the sentence, they can submit their answer for a chance to be the big winner.
THE RESULTS (One Month)
- 1 million+ AR scans
- 900k+ users
- 21,357,912+ matches played
Over 900,000 app users get to tune in and play along with Ellen by unlocking prizes that jump from the TV screen into viewers’ phones. The app has hit 741,614 AR gift box markers scanned from NBC broadcasts of Game of Games, during the weekly Play Along Live game.
