Salzburg, April 2nd, 2010. The free Augmented Realiy (AR)-browser Wikitude 4.0 is now made available for a plethora of Symbian phones. Since Nokia’s operating system Symbian is supported back to its 3rd generation, for the first time phones without a touchscreen are capable of using Augmented Reality technology. A full list of all supported devices is available at http://www.mobilizy.com/desuppported-devices-ensuppported-devices
This has to be an April Fool’s, right? Augmented reality needs a compass and far from “almost all” Symbian devices have that! ;)
I hope this is real…

Oh, come on! Why a simple phone like Nokia 5730 is supported, and Nokia 5800 is unsupported? I don’t know all the specifications of 5730, but the GPS components are the same, so, what’s the problem with 5800?
Hi Stefano,
Unfortunately, the Nokia 5800 does not have a build in compass, that’s why Wikitude won’t run on this phone – the phone does not know in which direction it is pointing.
Nicola
Hey, it is already available in the Ovi store but no one here mentioned it! Works great on my E55, and the Ovi store really sucks.
Hi Stefano!
The problem is the compass – no compass, no Augmented Reality. There’s nothing developers can do about it, we can only deliver AR applications to phones with a compass. It’s like you’re trying to insert a blueray disc in a dvd-only player – it just won’t work, sorry ;-)
Best,
Martin
Breaking news: Wiktitude 4 is now available in the Ovi Store for Symbian 3rd/5th edition. Please check our supported handsets list.

Hi, Can you please provide an alternative download beside the OVI-Store download? Thank you and greetings from Vienna,
Hi Ellak!
We are looking into this, it seems that the Qt installation causes problems on some phones.
Please stay tuned on our webpage, we hope to be able to provide an update soon.
Martin

Hi Andrea!
If the app is not starting at all, this is an indication that Qt was not installed successfully. Please try to reinstall. Thanks!
Martin

Hi hm!
We will, as soon as we’re supporting non-Nokia devices as well. This should happen in mid April.
Martin

Hi, where else can i download wikitude for v3 nokia device. Coz i am unable to download it from nokia Ovi Stores. Thanks. Regards.
Hi,
If you can’t download Wikitude from the Ovi Store, you device might not support Wikitude. Here you find a list with all supported devices: http://www.wikitude.org/desuppported-devices-ensuppported-devices-3. If your device should be supported according to the list, and still have problems, please let us know.
Thx and greetings,
Nicola
Hi,
sorry for not having a solution to your problems sooner. We’ve been hard at work to figure out what is causing the problems some of you are having. And today we updated the post with solutions to the known problems.
But I still want to take the time and address each of your comments:
@MX, @Ellak, @Arnobody, @Yo, @Nima, you might have an incompatible version of a library called Open C installed. How to fix this is described in the blog post above.
@Andrea unfortunately the libraries Wikitude uses have to be installed on the C: drive. We are aware that space on C: is limited but it is a technical limitation. I would suggest to go ahead and move some of your applications to the memory card to free up space. If you have around 8 MB free space on C: drive reinstall Wikitude. Make sure to install Wikitude on the memory card as well, only libraries will be then installed on the C: drive.
Hope this resolves the problems you are having. If an issue remains or if you stumble across a bug we would be happy if you let us know via email (developers AT wikitude DOT org).
Cheers,
Wolfgang
The text layout not display properly on E72 :(
Hello,
I can’t start wikitude on my N97.. I’ve installed Qt and all enteries are installed in the application manager. There is only 1 difference; instead of “Standard C++ library” i’ve “Standard C++ library Patch” installed. What is the problem?
Hi Stefan,
that’s bad and should not happen. Standard C++ library Patch should not be a problem.
We have released a bugfix version (2.0.2) in the Ovi Store on Friday that has an improved installer. Please try installing this new version directly from the Ovi Store. If this does not solve the problem, please check again if everything is correctly installed and if the version number of Qt is 4.6.2. Feel free to write us an email if it still does not work and I will get back to you to fix the issue.
Cheers,
Wolfgang

Hi i have a problem with my Nokia n97 mini
all files have the version 1.06(0)
also i`ve downloaded the updatet version from the ovistore but still wikitude goes down when it came up to connecting to the server
@Ilja are you seeing the splash screen (Wikitude logo and loading status)? If so then your phone has the right libraries installed. Please let me know via our developer@mobilizy.com mail address what exactly happens before the crash and we can investigate this issue further. Thanks, Wolfgang
I used wikitude on my E55 a few months ago. Now it seems to be removed from the Ovi store, or am I wrong?
I also can´t find Wikitude for my N97 mini in the ovi store
Hi,
Nokia has made available a Smart Installer that reduces the size of Wikitude to under 1 MB and downloads eventually needed libraries on application installation. Unfortunately Wikitude was pulled from the store without a notice of Nokia beforehand and has to be resubmitted using this Smart Installer. We are currently talking to Nokia to speed up the process and are expecting that Wikitude is back in the Ovi Store within the next 48 hours.
Thanks for your patience,
Wolfgang
Wikitude still not in Ovi store…!
Hi Colin,
Please see my last comment:
You can download the appropriate version for you from http://www.wikitude.org/enwikitude-symbian.
Have fun!
Greetings
Nicola
Nicola,
I tried to install Wikitude for S603rd on to my Nokia e73, my phone says that the program is not supported. Any ideas?
Hi tberi, we did not test on the Nokia e73 yet. The unsupported message during installation is therefore just a warning. It should work on this device as well. If you spot any problems it would be great if you can write us an email to info AT mobilizy DOT com. Thanks Wolfgang
Where is Symbian^3 version for Nokia N8?
Found this http://www.nokian8applications.com/wikitude-for-nokia-n8/ with link to OVI Store, but the Link wont work :(
Or Symbian^3 version has been submitted, now it’s up to the Ovi people to get it in the store?
