Meet the Grand Prize Winner of the 2010 NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge EMEA

Back in February we announced the winners of the EMEA edition of the annual NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge. Austrian-based Mobilizy GmbH won with their mobile LBS application,

Wikitude Drive, which is a turn-by-turn navigation system based on NAVTEQ® maps that utilizes an augmented reality (AR) camera mode and text-to-speech instructions.

NAVTEQ Network for Developers (NN4D) has interviewed all the winners from EMEA and this is the first in an article series, where we’ll take a closer look at the developers behind this year’s winning LBS applications in EMEA.

“When envisioning various use cases of AR, we quickly thought of navigation. We were wondering if it was possible to draw driving instructions onto the live camera image of a mobile phone utilizing GPS and a compass. We developed a proof-of-concept within a few weeks over the summer and were stunned by the results,” said Philipp Breuss-Schneeweis, CEO, Mobilizy, and Sebastian Höbarth, the Wikitude Drive Lead Developer, on the question of how they came up with their app idea.
